Metal Puzzles: Zodiac (Toys) Ltd. (8)
Undated (197?) set of puzzles

Zodiac (Toys) Ltd (c) Emil Dudek 2012

Box of eight metal puzzles consisting of lid in four colour (poorly) printed card and base (white).  Approximately 184mm x 133m x 27m (w x h x d) with internal moulded plastic compartments which are held rigid by a card pedestal beneath.    Product number K184.

Call for help.  I cannot find out much about Zodiac other than they were a London-based games chain store under Maynards Confectionary between 1965 and 1990. See http://www.freewebs.com/zodiactoys/

Medium quality set with fair variation but saves costs by making some triple puzzles in to doubles.

From the image design and printing quality this looks like early 1970s.  Interestingly, it is exactly the same hand-image used on Merit puzzles (opens new window so you can compare) - I wonder if one company bought from the other?

Type 4 puzzle.
Two distorted mini pig-tails in a twisted manoeuvre pass-through. Familiar item shapes with simple separation. Line up the two linear gaps at 90 degrees and pull/twist apart.

The Mini- Pigtail Puzzle (variation)

Double triangle diagonal pass-through.  Basic shapes with simple separation. Line up the two linear gaps at 90 degrees and pull apart.

Two Triangles (rather than the normal three)

Double paperclip diagonal pass-through.  Basic shapes with simple separation. Line up the two linear gaps at 90 degrees and pull apart.

The 2 Link Puzzle (rather than the normal three).

Small ring and crossed ring diagonal pass-through.  Basic shapes with simple separation. Line up the two linear gaps at 90 degrees and pull apart.

Ring and crossed ring (rather small)

Type 1 puzzle.
Two small rings diagonal pass-through.  Basic shapes with simple separation. Line up the two linear gaps at 90 degrees and pull apart.

Two small rings (very basic)

Type 4 puzzle.
Two distorted mini pig-tails in a twisted manoeuvre pass-through. Familiar item shapes with simple separation. Line up the two linear gaps at 90 degrees and pull/twist apart.

The Mini- Pigtail Puzzle (variation, without the pig-tail)

Type 2 puzzle
Locked in shape. The small ring is held on the V-shaped holder, seemingly locked in place by a bigger ring which it cannot go though.

The Heart and Ring Puzzle (aka Heart and Anchor) (variation, with small ring)

Type 2 puzzle.
Twin Horseshoe with trapped ring. Quite a classic with little help from the diagram. Two attached horseshoe shapes are linked by a ring which appears to be two small to be removed. Line up the two open ends of the horseshoes and slip the ring in between the twisted ends and feed the horseshoe through the ring.
